Why I built Flickwick.

When I was a kid, my dad told me a story every night: adventures he had growing up and in college. Those stories have stuck with me my whole life. Bedtime stories are some of the foundational memories of my childhood.

My brother has two kids, my niece and nephew, and I wanted to give them something like that at night. I am not as interesting as my father, and I am not the storyteller he is, but I still wanted to give them something to think about and something to remember. So I built Flickwick: a way to put them inside their own stories and their own worlds, shaped by what they want to see and what they are curious about, with morals and fables and lessons woven in night after night.

I also remember keeping my copies of The Berenstain Bears for years and years, so I wanted there to be a physical piece to this: books about themselves that they can come back to and read for years to come. That was the impetus for building Flickwick.
